Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘this is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, so that they may worship me.” Exo 9:1
And the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day, because on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. Exo 19:10-11
In Exodus chapter 19 and 20, God tells Moses and the Israelites to come up on Mount Sinai to meet with Him. God wanted to speak to them, but when they saw smoke, thunder and lightning, they stayed at a distance, trembled with fear and said to Moses “speak to us yourself and we will listen, but do not have God speak to us or we will die”. Moses said to the people “Do not be afraid, God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning”. The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
WHY WE NAME OUR PRAYER MOUNTAIN “MOUNT SINAI”?
One day, as I looked at the mountain on our land, God spoke to me (Paul, Virak Bun) “Name this mountain Mount Sinai”. I did not understand why… until I went to join the feast of tabernacle in the Philippines. Allen Faubion said “At the mount Sinai God wanted to meet His people and speak to them directly. But His people did not want to listen to God directly, instead they wanted to hear God through Moses.” At that time God confirmed to me why He name it Mount Sinai, because He wants to meet with His people and speak to them directly so that the broken relationship between Him and His people can be restored. When Jesus died on the cross the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom…
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
We believe that Mount Sinai is a place where God’s people can go up to encounter with God, confess their sins, turn away from their wicked way, so that the Word of God and the Holy Spirit can empower them to break through the bondage of sins that was passed down from their ancestors etc.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
We do not want to see God punish His people as He punished the Israelites after they worshipped the golden calf in Exodus 32.
So let us humble ourselves and go to meet with God boldly and seek His face, confessing our sins and turning away from our wicked way. He promises that He will forgive our sins and heal our land. It is the time to restore our relationship with God and with each other.
